Transfer to Poros
You will reach Poros in one hour by flying dolphin or in 2.5 hours by conventional ferry from Piraeus. The second way is the transition from Galata to the Peloponnese. In this case the journey takes only ten minutes. From there, things get easy, even if you do not have your own vehicle. Poros has a very good road network which means that buses, taxis and sea taxis are at your disposal for your transportation.
Culture and history
Although a small island, Poros has an Archaeological Museum with exhibitions dating from the Mycenaean to Roman times. The neoclassical building of the Municipal Library of Poros offers something different, where the permanent exhibition "Shells & Sea" is hosted. Otherwise, do not miss a visit to the Clock Tower in Kastelli. It is visible from every point of the island, as it is located on a hill, which you can easily climb. It overlooks Galata and the nearest coast of the Peloponnese island. Another stop you need to make is at the Russian Naval Station. It was built in 1834 for the purpose of supplying the Russian Fleet and is a protected monument. Just opposite is the islet of Daskalio.
Religion
It is worth seeing the Monastery of Zoodochou Pigi Kalavreia which dates from the 18th century. It is 4 km from the center of the island and at the entrance there is the famous spring, known for its healing properties. Profitis Elias is built on the second highest peak of the island, "drowned" in the pines. On the other hand, like every island, Poros has many temples, mainly parish, scattered in its area. As for the Diocese, it is the imposing church of the Annunciation.
Nature
Cross Galatas to cross the unique Lemon Forest, an area with over 30,000 lemon and orange groves, waters and watermills that belongs to Poros. This is a protected area by the European Union.
