Excursion to Aegina fon March 25th

Even when the Annunciation of the Virgin or the celebration of the Revolution of 1821 doesn't fall on a convenient three-day weekend, we can still make the most of the holiday with a one- or two-day trip to Aegina! It's a destination very close to Athens that even last-minute travelers can easily book tickets and accommodations for. Let's explore some ideas for what we can do on this beloved Argosaronic island on March 25, regardless of the weather conditions.

Strolls for Souvenir Photos

Aegina has many spots and settlements where we can take souvenir photos. The scattered beautiful villages are the ideal setting for them. Vagia, Agioi, Portes, Souvala, Vathi, Anitsaio, Kavos, Mesagros all offer relaxing walks in nature and comfortable exploration. Additionally, by meeting a few of their permanent residents, we can learn a lot about the history of the villages and the whole island.

Visit Pachia Rachi

During our tour, it's worth stopping at Pachia Rachi in the north of Aegina. It's a designated "traditional settlement" that maintains its unaltered image. It was the birthplace of some of the fighters of the Revolution of 1821. The route to get there and the view are unique. There are no shops in the village, no cars are allowed, and many of the houses have been restored or are in the process of being restored, as a result of which the village stands out for its aesthetics.

Hiking and Cycling

Aegina has so many hiking routes that it's impossible to cover them all in 2-3 days. There are some well-marked trails and a bike path. The topography of the island is complex and the branches are such that, without the appropriate signs, it's easy to change course without realizing it. Thanks to the trails, we will have the opportunity to learn a lot about the way of life of the inhabitants and enjoy the view from above again and again. Don't miss the chance to pass by the Ancient Olive Grove with its huge old olive trees or to climb to the top of Mount Hellanios, which is the highest peak of Aegina. If we prefer cycling, in Aegina we can rent bikes for unforgettable routes. We can follow the coastal line for cycling by the sea and get strong doses of oxygen. In fact, the distance of the road from the sea is so short that in some places it's like cycling on water!

Watch the Parade

Of course, we won't miss the student parade that passes every year in front of the port of Aegina on March 25th, with all the residents of the island present!
