9th Saronic Chamber Music Festival

9th Saronic Chamber Music Festival

The Saronic Chamber Music Festival, this unique musical institution, was born 9 years ago. Since then it has been presenting the body of the great chamber music works of the great classical composers. Every year are invited distinguished musicians from all over the world that connect with friendships and artistic visions!

From July 31 to August 4, 2019, major musicians will appear in magnificent locations on the Argosaronic Islands. Everyone is ready to offer high-quality performances from pieces of Mozart, Schumann, Dvorak, Schubert, Brahms and Skalkott to the musical audience, made up of residents and visitors. An important presence at the festival is the violin of The New York Metropolitan Opera, the American Canadian violinist Benjamin Bowman.

The 9th Saronic Chamber Music Festival will host Benjamin Bowman for sixth time, who has been an uninterrupted participant from 2012 until 2016. Today he is the echelon of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York as well as the exarch of American Ballet Theater. For the first time, Andrew Joyce, first cello of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and Kana Sugimura, a musician with distinctions in international competitions and numerous festivals, will participate.

Sini Simonen, Finnish violinist, is a stable visitor to the Saronic Festival. Sini Simonen is one of the most popular chamber musicians in Europe and a member of the Castalian String Quartet and the Calvino Piano Trio. Even Israeli pianist Noam Greenberg, who has appeared in halls like Wigmore Hall, Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, and is artistic director of the Musicat Tresanton Festival. Finally, Julian Arp, a career cellist throughout Europe, the first cello of the O / Modernt Chamber Orchestra and a professor at the Graz Music Academy.

This year's program includes the famous second piano trio by Franz Schubert D.929, the masterpiece but rarely played trio with piano No. 3 op. 110 by Robert Schumann, the string sextet op. 36 by Johannes Brahms, the K 593 string quintet of W.A. Mozart, the so-called "American" string quartet by Antonin Dvorak, and Nikos Skalkotas' violin and viola duo, honoring the 70th anniversary of the death of the great Greek composer. With the selection of these important works of musical literature, some of which are known to a wider audience, while other are rarely played, musicians seek to communicate with a new audience through distinctive musical sounds, seeking the cultural upturn of communities.

International Saronic Chamber Music Festival is the artistic seat of the Leondari Ensemble. A group of friends and collaborators from around the world who love chamber music and are proud friends of Greece. Founders and artistic directors are violinist Yannis Agraniotis and violinist Francis Kefford. This is a festival that is being held for the ninth consecutive year with the support of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Athens and under the auspices of the Municipalities of Poros, Hydra, Trizinia and Methana. The concerts in Hydra are also performed with the kind support of Hercules Kontos, in memory of Teresa Kontou's musical husband.
