Transfer to Hydra
Hydra is easily accessible from Piraeus. It is only one hour and ten minutes by flying dolphin and 3-3.5 hours by conventional ship. Alternatively, you can leave your car in Ermioni and cross across by dolphin or water taxi. In any case you can not take your car with you. Vehicles on the island are prohibited, so you will travel on foot, by bicycle, donkey or sea taxi.

If you continue, you will end up in Mandraki where the Hydra naval base used to be. You can also follow the route to Agios Nikolaos which takes about an hour through a dirt road. Not all routes are easy, but if you try you will reach the most picturesque places of Hydra and its beaches.
Athletic activities
For sportsmen, Hydra hosts two major sporting events each year: the Hydra’s Trail Event and the Hydra SwimRun. The first is a mountain running race and the second is a biathlon with participants competing in running and swimming.
Gastronomy
Hydra is not famous for its gastronomy. The catches are the ones that stand out in Hydra and in particular the squid, the cuttlefish, the octopus and the red mullet. From sweets, famous are the macaroons and the lalaggites which are homemade pancakes. For food, prefer the pies with sweet mountain greens, the snails cooked with red sauce, the cuttlefish and the squid with pilaf cooked in their own ink and the octopus that the people of Hydra cook in their own way. Finally, quince meat is the food of winter and the Christmas holidays.
